Opening Hymn: “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”

CC Hymnal 305 verses 1, 2 & 4

Praise to the Lord the Almighty the King of Creation,

O my soul praise Him, for He is your health and salvation,

Come all who hear, brothers and sisters draw near,

Praise Him in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord above all things so mightily reigning,

Keeping us safe at His side and so gently sustaining;

Have you not seen all you have needed has been?

Met by His gracious ordaining.

Praise to the Lord O let all that is in us adore Him,

All that has life and breath come now with praises before Him

Let the Amen sound from His people again

Gladly with praise we adore Him.

Closing Hymn: “Lord of All Nations, Grant Me Grace”

CC Hymnal 306 verses 1, 2 & 5

Lord of all nations grant me grace

To love all people, ev’ry race

To see each mortal as I ought

My kindred whom Your love has bought.

Break down the wall that would divide

Your children Lord on ev’ry side

My neighbor’s good let me pursue

Let Christian love bind warm and true.

With Your own love may I be filled

And by Your Holy Spirit willed,

That all whose lives are touched by mine,

May know Your healing touch divine.

26th Sunday Ordinary Time

First Reading:  Isaiah 55: 6-9

Responsorial:  Psalm 145

Second Reading:  Philippians 1:20-24, 27

Gospel:  Matthew 20: 1-16

Key Verse: " In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”                                          Philippians 1: 5

Readings: Ezekiel reminds us that God tells us something we tend to forget; the good life is not only a matter of turning away from our sins, but also a turning to the good and doing good.  Our second reading tells us what it means to be a Christian -possessing a Christlike attitude towards life where the paschal mystery is at the heart of it all.  Jesus in the Gospel warns us that, for our Heavenly Father as for us, actions speak louder than words.

Reflection: Once a sinner, always a sinner. That seems to be the attitude of the self-righteous in the first reading and the Gospel; they object that God is unjust, because he gives sinners another chance. But God tells them quite clearly that such attitudes are the real injustice - to allow prejudice and hardness of heart to come between repentance and forgiveness. The words of Christ in the Gospel must have struck a chill into the hard hearts of the so-called righteous chief priests - even today they can make us stop and think: Prostitutes are making their way into the kingdom of God before you. All our outward show matters little, if it does not correspond with what is deep in our hearts; all our words are meaningless, if they do not correspond with the way we live our lives.

Praying:   Heavenly Father, we pray that You will help us make our attitude towards others be like Your Son’s attitude.  May we become better servants so that our daily actions will speak louder than words.  This we pray trough Your Son, our Lord.
